  Crafts for beach: Ribbon Flip Flops tutorial

What you need:

• Pair of flip flops
• Length of ribbon cut into four 18 inch pieces
• Some sort of craft knife

Step 1: Measure 1/4 inch from the top of the strap (the part that goes between your first two toes). Cut a vertical slit on each side.

CAUTION: This is hard. First, my straps must have been made from industrial plastic or something because I had to saw to cut it. Second, while you’re sawing away, it’s easy to get carried away and slice all the way through the strap. This pretty much ruins the project … and your flip flops. Third, try to not lose a finger.

Step 2: Measure 3/4 inch from the first cut and continue making vertical slits down each side. Make sure you have an odd number of slits. I cut 7 on each side.

Step 3: Cut four 18 inch pieces of ribbon.

Step 4: Pull apart the bottom of the flip flop and thread the ribbon up through. Leave about 2 inches on the bottom of the shoe. Wrap it around the strap button and push the button back in.

Step 5: Weave the ribbon through the holes until you reach the top. Tie the ends into a bow and trim off the excess ribbon.

Gift presents for a little princess: Baby Headband

Lucky me, I just welcomed a sweet new neice into the world! This is what I sent her:



I found this stretch lace stuff at Hobby Lobby in the ribbon aisle and sewed it together, adding a loop of grossgrain ribbon over the seam. The ribbon loop is where you hook the interchangeable bows and flowers:

oooh... pretty sheer ribbon loops with a rhinestone in the center!


A pink fabric flower. I made it by cutting a bunch of 2 inch squares, shaping the edges and gluing the centers down to a piece of felt. If that makes any sense...

Lots of fun choices to accessorize lots of different outfits.

Crafts for summer: Lace and Ribbon Tee tutorial, kids craft ideas

A couple of months ago I saw this sweet lace (OK, it's more like eyelet trim, but lace sounds prettier) and ribbon top on eBay. Unfortunately, the seller did not list a name brand so I can't include it as credit for my inspiration. I will update this post if I can find the designer. Anyhow, it was a simple and cute update to a plain white tee. Here are a few pictures of Isabella in her updated tee. She loves it!

Try it, I promise you'll have it done in no time!

You'll need about 1.5 yard of lace, 3/8" ribbon, needle, matching thread, and a plain tee.

Using the ribbon make 6 small bows about 2 inches wide and hand sew them to the tee.

Pin four rows of lace to the tee, two on each side.

 Sew the lace to the tee. I also stitched the top and bottom of the two rows together to keep the layers down.

Gift presents for summer: Felt Bow Tutorial

 

Here's a quick and easy way to make a cute bow.  No sewing machine required.  I like to make these to match the giggler's outfits.  

Cut two felt rectangles in the same size.  You can choose how big or small you want them.  Then cut a skinny rectangle for the middle.  It just has to be long enough to fit around the bow.

You just need enough space to get a clip through.  I sewed mine tighter than it shows in the picture.

 Here's one that I sewed around the edges.
